In a bid to enhance spiritual tourism, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a luxury Char Dham tour that covers four of India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations. The 17-day tour, beginning on September 5, will take passengers on a comfort-driven spiritual adventure, visiting the sacred shrines of Badrinath (North), Puri Jagannath (East), Rameswaram (South), and Dwarka (West).
Pilgrims will cover over 8,157 kilometers, exploring each site’s cultural and historical significance, while traveling aboard the luxurious Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train, making it an all-inclusive and comfortable journey for devotees.
The tour will operate on the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train, offering a comfortable, fully air-conditioned journey. The initiative supports the government’s ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ and ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ campaigns aimed at boosting domestic tourism.
The package includes AC hotel stays, vegetarian meals, guided sightseeing in AC vehicles, travel insurance, and a dedicated tour manager throughout.

All bookings are available on the official IRCTC tourism website (irctctourism.com/bharatgaurav), and tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers can board the train from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station, with other boarding points in Ghaziabad, Meerut City, and Muzaffarnagar.
The Char Dham pilgrimage will take you through five states, each offering unique cultural and spiritual experiences. Here’s an overview of the journey:
Uttarakhand:
The journey starts with a visit to Badrinath the northernmost shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Pilgrims will also explore the Mana Village and Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh.
Uttar Pradesh:
The tour will take you to Varanasi, where you will visit the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple and explore the newly constructed Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
Odisha:
Puri -home to the famous Jagannath Temple will be next on the journey. Pilgrims will also visit Konark Sun Temple and enjoy the beaches at Chandrabhaga and Puri Beach.
Tamil Nadu:
Rameswaram, with the Ramanathaswamy Temple, is another key destination. Pilgrims will also visit the historic site of Dhanushkodi.
Maharashtra:
Stops in Pune and Nashik will include visits to significant temples like Bhimashankar and Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga.
Gujarat:
The journey concludes in Dwarka, where pilgrims will visit the iconic Dwarkadhish Temple and the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.
Each Char Dham represents a different yuga (era) and direction:
Badrinath (Satya Yuga – North): Lord Vishnu’s shrine
Dwarka (Dvapara Yuga – West): Lord Krishna’s ancient kingdom
Puri (Kali Yuga – East): Home of Lord Jagannath
Rameswaram (Treta Yuga – South): Lord Shiva worshipped by Ram
This rare journey is believed to purify the soul and lead to moksha (liberation).
