Paytm UPI Handle Change:
In a recent announcement, Paytm clarified the confusion arising from a Google Play notification regarding changes to its UPI handles. This update has created concerns among users, especially regarding the discontinuation of old UPI handles after August 31, 2025.
Paytm, a leading fintech company led by Vijay Shekhar Sharma, has assured users that regular UPI payments will continue as usual without any disruptions. The change primarily affects recurring payments linked to Paytm’s old UPI handles. For example, if a user subscribes to services like YouTube Premium or Google One through Paytm UPI, they will need to update their UPI handle linked to their bank account to the new Paytm handle.
The company emphasized that this change will only impact recurring payments such as subscriptions or regular payments to platforms that use Paytm for UPI transactions. One-time payments or other UPI transactions will remain unaffected and will continue to work smoothly.
This change is being implemented after Paytm received approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate under new UPI handle guidelines. The update is part of efforts to ensure a seamless payment experience for users while keeping up with new regulatory requirements.
Google Play issued a notification regarding this change, advising users to make the necessary updates before the deadline. Starting from September 1, 2025, banks will stop accepting old Paytm UPI handles like @Paytm, @pthdfc, @ptaxis, etc. Users should switch to the new UPI handles promptly to avoid interruptions. Paytm has ensured that this change is a simple update and reassured that there will be no other disruptions to the UPI payment process.
