Gold vs Stocks vs SBI FD: Which Gave Best Returns Over 10 Years?

Gold vs Stocks vs SBI FD: Which Gave Best Returns Over 10 Years?

Gold vs Stocks vs SBI FD:

When it comes to investment options, many people seek the highest returns. While some prefer the risks associated with the stock market and mutual funds, others opt for more secure, guaranteed returns from government schemes, post-office plans, or fixed deposits. Gold, being a stable investment, also has its place in these discussions.

Gold vs Stocks vs SBI FD:

Let’s compare the returns on three major investment options over the past 10 years: Gold, Stocks (Nifty 50), and SBI Fixed Deposit (FD).

1. Gold

Gold has always been considered a safe and reliable investment. Over the last decade, physical gold and gold ETFs have provided steady returns. One of the popular gold funds, Aditya Birla Sun Life Gold Fund, gave an average annual return of 13.46%. If you invested ₹1 lakh in this fund 10 years ago, your investment would have grown to ₹3,53,531.

2. Nifty 50

Nifty 50, representing the top 50 companies in India, has been a strong performer in the stock market. From August 2015 to August 2025, the Nifty 50 index has given an average annual return of 13.62%. If you invested ₹1 lakh in Nifty 50 ten years ago, it would have grown to ₹3,58,548.

3. SBI Fixed Deposit (FD)

Fixed deposits are a safer, low-risk option, providing guaranteed returns. Ten years ago, SBI’s 10-year FD interest rate was 8.25%. With ₹1 lakh invested in SBI FD, the amount would have grown to ₹2,26,281 after 10 years.

Which is the Best?

When comparing returns, Nifty 50 has provided the highest growth, followed by Gold, and lastly, SBI Fixed Deposit. However, it’s important to note that the stock market carries higher risks, while gold and FD offer stability but lower returns.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your risk tolerance and investment goals.
