Festive Special Trains:
Indian Railways is gearing up for the festive season by launching 150 special trains to accommodate the increased passenger demand. These trains will run from September 21 to November 30, 2025, during the peak of the festive period.
In total, these 150 special trains will complete 2,024 trips across major routes in the country. The Southern Central Railway (SCR) will operate the highest number of trains—48, with 684 trips, focusing on routes connecting cities like Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Vijayawada. This move is expected to provide significant relief to passengers traveling on these busy routes.
The East Central Railway (ECR) is also stepping up its services, with 14 trains running 588 trips to cater to the high demand for travel to Bihar. These trains will connect important cities such as Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur, which see a large number of travelers during the festive period.
Other regions are also seeing an increase in services. The Eastern Railway (ER) will run 24 special trains on routes like Kolkata, Sealdah, and Howrah. The Western Railway (WR) will operate another 24 trains connecting cities like Surat, Vadodara, and Mumbai. The Southern Railway (SR) will contribute with 10 trains, running 66 trips on routes such as Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai.
In addition to these major routes, several other regions will have special trains running to Bhuvaneshwar, Puri, Ranchi, and other places across the country. With this large scale of additional services, passengers are expected to have smoother travel experiences during the busy festival season.
Indian Railways has also mentioned that this is just the first phase of the announcement. If the demand increases further, the railways will introduce additional trains in the coming weeks to ensure that every passenger gets a seat during the upcoming festivals like Diwali, Durga Puja, and Chhath Puja.
