India Post: The Indian postal service has declared that all mail reservations to the United States would be suspended. Citing uncertainty about new American import taxes, India Post said on August 22 that it will temporarily halt all parcel services to the US starting on August 25.
The Department of Posts reviewed the suspension of mail bookings to the United States of America, continuing the Public Notice issued on August 22, 2025. In a press release on August 31, the Press Information Bureau announced that the department took this decision because no clear regulatory measures were in place.
The Trump administration abandoned the global “de minimis” regulation, which earlier allowed packages under $800 to enter the US with minimal documentation. From August 29, US Customs began applying taxes on all incoming packages. The Indian government also refused to treat small donations under $100 as an exception.

The Department of Posts decided to completely suspend the booking of all categories of mail, including letters, documents, and gift items valued up to USD 100, destined for the USA. The decision came because carriers could not transport U.S.-bound mail, and no clear regulatory mechanisms existed, the statement said. Media sources reported that US Customs and Border Protection confirmed about 1.4 billion small items entered the country duty-free last year, marking a 600% rise over the past decade.
The postal service said it is closely monitoring the situation and making every effort to restore services at the earliest. It added that customers who booked items that could not be shipped may request a postage refund. “We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our valued customers,” the statement read.
