Gmail Accounts At Risk:
Google has issued an urgent security warning for its users worldwide. The company announced that over 2.5 billion Gmail accounts could be in risk because of increasing cyber-attacks. Hackers are targeting users through phishing attacks and fake login pages to steal passwords and security codes.
According to Google, an international hacking group called ShinyHunters is behind these attacks. This group has been active since 2020 and is linked to major data leaks involving companies like AT\&T, Microsoft, Santander, and Ticketmaster. Recently, they have launched new platforms to sell stolen data, which has increased the risk even more.
To protect accounts, Google strongly advises users to update their passwords immediately and enable two-step verification (2SV). Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your Gmail account. Even if hackers know your password, they cannot log in without the security code sent to your phone or trusted device.
Experts also suggest using two-factor authentication (2FA) or multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all important services like banking, social media, and online shopping accounts. It takes only a few minutes to activate, but it can save you from losing personal data or money.
Google confirmed that it has already emailed affected users with instructions to secure their accounts. The company also reminded users not to click on suspicious links and always check if the website address is correct before logging in.
Cybercrime cases are rising worldwide, and phishing is the most common method hackers use. Staying alert and updating security settings regularly is the best way to stay safe online.
So, if you are a Gmail user, change your password now and turn on two-step verification today. A few minutes of action can protect your account from hackers.
