Clothes to Become Cheaper:
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has recently taken a key decision.
This decision will directly benefit millions of consumers in India. The 56th meeting of the council was held under the leadership of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In this meeting, the council approved a reduction in GST rates. The cut applies to commonly used items like shoes, slippers, and clothes.
Earlier, footwear and clothes priced up to ₹1,000 were taxed at 5%, while items above that price came under the 12% GST slab. Now, the council has decided to extend the 5% GST rate to footwear and clothing priced up to ₹2,500. This means that customers will be able to buy shoes, slippers, and clothes at a more affordable price.
The official announcement regarding this reform will be made by the Finance Minister soon, but the decision has already created a positive response among both customers and traders. Retailers believe that this reduction will boost sales, especially in the festive season, while customers are happy about the direct savings on daily essentials.
Apart from this, reports suggest that the council also discussed the removal of the 12% and 28% tax slabs. Many of the products under these categories may be shifted to 5% and 18% slabs. Such reforms are expected to simplify the GST structure and reduce confusion for businesses.
