IRCTC takes big step for safer train journeys

Safer train journeys:

Indian Railways has announced an important decision to strengthen passenger safety. The North Central Railway (NCR) has decided to install CCTV cameras in passenger coaches across Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra divisions. This project covers a total of 1,782 coaches, including 895 LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) and 887 ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches. The main goal is to provide a safer travel experience for lakhs of passengers every day.

Safer train journeys:

Step-by-step installation

The team will carry out the installation process in phases. In the first phase, they will give priority to some important trains. These include Prayagraj–Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Express, Kalindi Express, Prayagraj–Lalgarh Express, Subedarganj–Dehradun Express, Subedarganj–Meerut City Sangam Express, and Subedarganj–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra trains. Premium trains like Prayagraj Express and Shram Shakti Express will get advanced AI-based cameras that can detect suspicious activities and alert authorities immediately. This technology will help prevent unwanted incidents.

Cameras in every coach

According to the plan, every coach will have cameras installed. Each AC coach will get four high-quality cameras, while general coaches, SLR coaches, and pantry cars will have six cameras each. These cameras can record clear videos even when trains run at speeds of over 100 kmph and in low-light conditions. They will be placed near entry doors and corridors to monitor passenger movements.

Real-time monitoring

The footage from these cameras will be monitored in real time at NCR headquarters and divisional offices in Agra, Jhansi, and Prayagraj. This ensures that railway staff can respond quickly in case of emergencies. NCR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Shashikant Tripathi, stated that the step shows Railways’ commitment to safe travel. It will also help prevent crimes and assist in faster investigations.

A step towards modernization

With passenger numbers rising and security challenges increasing, Indian Railways is focusing on safety as a top priority. Officials believe this project will not only improve passenger trust but also support Railways’ digital transformation plans. It marks a major step toward building a modern and secure train network in the country.
