The Four Most Common Cancers in Women

Cancers in Women: A new study has found that women are more likely to get cancer than men. Although 51.1 percent of cancer patients are women, the mortality rate is only 45 percent, said Dr. Prashant Mathur, Director, National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR), ICMR. Here are the four major cancers seen in women.

Breast cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. Doctors today include breast cancer in the list of lifestyle diseases. Its causes are genetic, hormonal, lifestyle and environmental.

Breast cancer can be detected very early. It can be identified through self-examination, mammography and specialist examination. Some of the important symptoms of breast cancer are breast changes, changes, discoloration, lumps of various sizes, skin changes, sores, and spots like pimples, nipple inversion, discharge, and lumps in the armpit.

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in the lining of the cervix. It is mainly caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Since it often starts without symptoms, regular screening and HPV vaccination can help in early detection and prevention of the disease.

HPV vaccines

Human papillomavirus vaccines or HPV vaccines are used as a primary prevention method. The main symptoms are abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, and pain during sexual intercourse.

Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer in which abnormal cells grow out of control in the ovaries or fallopian tubes. There are three main types of ovarian cancer: epithelial cancer, germ cell tumors, and stromal tumors.

Hormonal factors, diabetes, and a high body mass index also increase the risk. Some studies suggest that the risk of ovarian cancer increases with age, especially after menopause.

Endometrial cancer

Another type of cancer is endometrial cancer. Endometrial cancer begins in the layer of cells that make up the lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium. The first symptom is said to be vaginal bleeding. Obese women are more likely to develop endometrial cancer after menopause or at an age when menopause occurs.
