Charlie Kirk Shooting Case:
The FBI has released new images of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, the founder of conservative youth group Turning Point USA. Kirk was shot on Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
The suspect, described as a young adult, was captured on surveillance cameras wearing a cap and sunglasses while walking through a stairwell. Authorities have urged the public to help identify him, stressing that investigators are working “around the clock” to track him down.
Investigators recovered a Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. The gun was found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the university. Along with the firearm, ammunition bearing unusual markings with “transgender and anti-fascist” messages was discovered. The FBI has sent the weapon and cartridges for DNA and fingerprint analysis.
According to officials, the shooter arrived on campus around 11:52 a.m., accessed stairwells, and reached the roof of a nearby building. At approximately 12:20 p.m., he fired a single fatal shot at Kirk before fleeing into a nearby neighborhood. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing residents for leads.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the killing as a “political assassination” and called on Americans to reject violence. Former President Donald Trump blamed divisive rhetoric for the attack and announced that Kirk would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously. Flags across the country have been lowered to half-staff in his honor.
Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum. Vice President JD Vance described Kirk as “a genuinely good guy,” while President Joe Biden condemned the violence and extended condolences to Kirk’s family.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was a well-known political activist who founded Turning Point USA at just 18 and later became a close ally of Trump. His death has shocked supporters and renewed urgent calls for unity against political violence.
