World Tallest Bathukamma:
Hyderabad is preparing for a grand celebration of Telangana’s state festival, Bathukamma, with a record-breaking floral display. On September 28, LB Stadium will showcase a 50-foot-tall Bathukamma, which is expected to be the world’s tallest. The state tourism department is organizing this event to highlight the cultural beauty of Telangana.
The previous tallest Bathukamma measured 32 feet, but this year’s creation aims to surpass that milestone. Officials are also working to get this floral wonder documented in the Guinness World Records. Alongside the main Bathukamma, smaller ones measuring one to two feet in width will be arranged in a triangular design to enhance the visual appeal.
The festival of Bathukamma will be celebrated from September 21 to September 30. The celebrations will begin at the historic Thousand Pillar Temple in Warangal, followed by more than 30 events across Telangana, including programs in schools and colleges.
Nearly 300 skilled florists from Hyderabad are working on the project, and in total, over 1,000 people including farmers and transport workers are contributing. The flowers for this massive structure will come from several regions such as Shankarpalli, Shadnagar, Pulmaddi, Peddamangalaram, Chevella, and Vikarabad.
The Bathukamma will be decorated with traditional flowers that hold cultural significance in Telangana, including Gunugu (Celosia), Tangedu (Tanner’s Cassia), Banthi (Marigold), Chamanthi (Chrysanthemum), and Gummadi (Pumpkin flowers). Each flower adds color and meaning to the festival.
On September 27, a Bathukamma carnival will set the stage for the main event. More than 10,000 women are expected to take part in the celebrations, singing folk songs and dancing around the floral arrangements. This gathering will showcase the unity and joy of Telangana’s women.
In an eco-friendly move, once the festival ends, all the flowers will be converted into organic manure to enrich nearby farmlands. This step ensures that the event remains both cultural and sustainable.
The 50-foot Bathukamma at LB Stadium is set to become a symbol of pride for Telangana, blending tradition, community spirit, and environmental care into one spectacular celebration.
