BSNL 4G Stack: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the two initiatives on September 27, 2025-the indigenous BSNL 4G stack and the 100% 4G saturation project under the Digital Bharat Nidhi scheme. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, announcing the launch, said these initiatives will completely change the landscape of connectivity in India, ensuring coverage even in the farthest regions.
Almost 98,000 sites will get deployed with a 4G stack cutting through the country and serving more than 22 million customers. Scindia pointed out that it is a cloud-based, software-driven future-ready system that can seamlessly upgrade to 5G. The initiative underlines the government’s desire for building a self-reliant digital infrastructure.
The 4G saturation scheme aims at universal connectivity to ensure that even rural and underserved areas that are now uncovered should be put under reliable mobile coverage. With this splendid scheme, BSNL’s role as the backbone for telecom expansion in India will further solidify.
Scindia drew attention that in rapid steps, India has emerged as a global hub for telecom equipment manufacturing. International giants like Cisco, Ericsson, VVDN, Jabil, and Dixon have joined firms in India to make strong alliances for local production. Entities like C-DOT and Tejas Networks are also innovating locally by manufacturing Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment with a potential for export opportunities in the Global South.
As per Scindia, BSNL has put in place ₹25,000 crores capital expenditure plan for FY24-25. Which mainly concerns expansion of sites and modernization. He added that BSNL has reported profits during the last few quarters. However, it should be viewed on operating profits and EBITDA, factoring depreciation from the new investments.
