1. Gujarat (12.61%)

Gujarat leads the list, generating over 12% of India’s total power. The state has a strong mix of thermal plants, hydro projects, and renewable energy sources. With mega solar parks like Charanka and large wind farms, Gujarat has also become a leader in green energy.

2. Maharashtra (10.71%)

Maharashtra ranks second, producing nearly 11% of the nation’s electricity. Power plants such as Chandrapur Super Thermal Station and Tarapur Atomic Station ensure steady supply to its industries and cities.


3. Rajasthan (10.29%)
Known for abundant sunlight, Rajasthan produces more than 10% of India’s electricity. The Bhadla Solar Park, one of the largest in the world, highlights its leadership in renewable energy.

4. Tamil Nadu (7.63%)

Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in wind energy and also runs several thermal and hydro plants. It generates around 8% of the country’s electricity, supporting both urban and industrial needs.

5. Karnataka (6.30%)

Karnataka has made big strides in solar and wind energy. With over 6% share, the state is an important contributor to India’s renewable power targets.

6. Uttar Pradesh (5.88%)

As the most populated state, UP is rapidly expanding its power capacity. It contributes nearly 6% through a mix of thermal and hydroelectric plants.

7. Andhra Pradesh (5.25%)

Leveraging its long coastline, Andhra Pradesh produces wind and solar power along with thermal energy. Its share is over 5% in the national grid.

8. Madhya Pradesh (4.62%)

Madhya Pradesh plays a central role in India’s power supply with major thermal and hydro projects, contributing close to 5%.

9. Telangana (3.78%)

Telangana is quickly building its energy base, with investments in solar and thermal projects, adding almost 4% to India’s production.

10. Haryana (2.94%)
