IndiGo to Restart Flights Between India and China on Oct 26

IndiGo Flights: Almost after five years, flights between India and China have again restarted. IndiGo Airlines has announced that it will resume services, operating daily non-stop flights from Kolkata to Guangzhou starting October 26. Ticket bookings opened on Friday.

Finally, Flights Return:
The Centre has given its approval, allowing IndiGo to restart operations. The first route will connect Kolkata and Guangzhou, with plans to add direct Delhi–Guangzhou flights in the near future once approvals come through. IndiGo will operate the route using the Airbus A320neo aircraft. The airline thanked the Ministry of Civil Aviation for its support and said the move will boost tourism, trade, and business partnerships. IndiGo also assured passengers that operations will run smoothly, thanks to its strong ties with local partners in China.

A Push for Stronger Ties:
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, meeting President Xi Jinping. The two leaders emphasized strengthening trade relations between the countries. Meanwhile, industry sources revealed that Air India may resume flights to Shanghai by the end of this year. In July, the government also reopened tourist visas for Chinese nationals, further paving the way for connectivity.

From Suspension to Restart:
Flights between India and China had been suspended since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, domestic airlines also halted operations following the Galwan incident. With winter schedules starting on the last Sunday of October, IndiGo will now mark the official resumption of India-China services. Chinese carriers like Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Shandong Airlines are also expected to resume flights, though some have delayed their government applications. Sources say Air China plans to restart with a Beijing–Delhi connection, followed by Mumbai.
