Kantara: Rishabh Shetty’s Epic film Kantara Chapter ‘1’ is roaring in theatres. The film garnered good reviews and a fantastic word of mouth from the get go. This film is a prequel to Kantara released in 2022.
The story
Kantara is a story of a legend from rural Karnataka region, the film portrays how the oppressed community fights back oppressors with the help of their God. This simple one liner plot is the essence of both these films, elements of thriller and action are layered on top for commercial attraction. Rishabh Shetty plays the central character in both these films, his character will be possessed by their God in the fight for Justice of his community.

Rishabh’s performance
In both these films, Rishabh’s portrayal of a possessed man is the main attraction, there is some magic or aura in his performance in possession scenes, audiences are glued to the screen. In some of the interviews when questioned about his performance, he openly stated that there was some kind of energy he had while shooting those scenes, he can’t completely put those into words.
Some people may wonder if he was really possessed by God? But he clarified that nothing of that sort happened, as he is also the director of the film, he was very well conscious in between the takes. So we can rule out the Divine intervention angle.
Craftsmenship
Having said that, how am I, as a viewer, experiencing this kind of euphoria while watching the film? For me there is only one conclusion that comes to mind, the craft stands out. Each Craftsmen in film, be it Cinematographer or Musician or Sound Designer or Production designer, Costumer. Each individual completely committed to giving the best of their crafts made this brilliant film.
There should be a special shout out to the Sound effects department, because the ambience of forest lands and the echos the land creates are portrayed so realistically, I completely was immersed in this world of Kantara.
Conclusion
Basically, Kantara is a film that Rishabh Shetty is born to do. I know that can be an extreme statement, but it is an opinion piece and I am stating my opinion. If you haven’t yet watched Kantara in theatres, I feel sad for you for missing a fantastic theatrical experience.
