Dhurandhar Vs Kalamkaval Box Office Update: Last weekend, unexpectedly turned out to be a box-office clash of Ranveer Singh’s action entertainer Dhurandhar against the Malayalam thriller, Kalamkaval, which is centered around crime. Although both were starting to generate good buzz areas, stark differences have been laid bare at the box office with the weekend results on scale, reach, and commercial sturdiness they have in reaching the audience.
It was one of the biggest openings of the season for Dhurandhar.
– The film had a collection of:
– ₹28 Cr on Day 1,
– ₹32 Cr on Day 2, and
– ₹43 Cr on Day 3,
leaving the film with a rather comfortable and impressive ₹103 Cr generated across languages in just three days.
The estimates for production budget go between ₹180-₹200 Cr, and so the film actually has a long way to go before entering the profit-white zone. However, going above the ₹100 crore mark in just 3 days is an indication of strong word-of-mouth and very high repeat value among mass audiences.
On the other end, the quite successful mid-budget malayalam thriller has held firm at the numbers even when released together with such a pan-India giant. The prime numbers for the movie were:
Against ₹5 Cr on Day 1
₹5.5 Cr on Day 2
₹5.85 Cr on Day 3
Bringing the total into 3-day collection: ₹16.35 Cr.
With an estimated budget of ₹20-25 Cr already close to breaking even, the film remains afloat. “The control on the costs, the niche factor, and the strong reach in the Kerala circuits all help in maintaining occupancies.”
Clearly, Dhurandhar is the runaway winner with everything in it, and has banked a stupendous total of ₹103 Cr as its first-weekend collection. Hence, the movie had a competitive advantage in terms of pan-India release, star power, and aggressive promotions.

However, Kalamkaval eventually turned out to be the most efficient performer in collections-versus-budget comparisons, as it broke even in its first weekend itself. But on the other hand, Dhurandhar, though it opened to blockbuster figures, still needs to take advantage of strong weekdays to cover this sky-high investment.
Numbers: Dhurandhar; Profitable efficiency: Kalamkaval.
