School Holiday Tomorrow:
The Karnataka government has declared a 10-day school holiday from October 8 to 18, 2025, for all government and aided schools. This decision aims to facilitate the ongoing caste survey being conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes. The survey, which began on September 22, will continue in different districts until mid-October.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that teachers who are handling mid-term exams will not be assigned survey duties. Earlier, school hours were shortened to accommodate survey work, but now schools will remain completely closed during the survey period.
Apart from Karnataka, other states are also observing school closures. In Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir, all schools will remain closed on October 8, 2025, due to continuous rainfall and flood-like conditions. Authorities have issued alerts in several districts, asking residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
In Jammu & Kashmir, the weather department has predicted more rain in the coming days, which could disrupt transport and power services. The government has advised schools to suspend physical classes to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The month of October is packed with festivals and regional events, leading to several school holidays nationwide:
October 10 (Friday): Dussehra (Vijayadashami)
Oct 11–13 (Saturday–Monday): Durga Puja (observed mainly in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, and Bihar)
October 15 (Wednesday): Muharram / Ashura
Oct 22 (Wednesday): Diwali
Oct 23 (Thursday): Govardhan Puja
October 24 (Friday): Bhai Dooj
Students and parents are encouraged to stay updated with local school announcements and weather forecasts. These holidays offer time for families to plan travel, celebrate festivals, or catch up on studies safely.
