Schools Holiday Today:
Several parts of India are expected to see school closures on October 9, 2025, as multiple state governments take precautionary measures due to heavy rainfall, landslides, and ongoing survey work. Parents and students are advised to check directly with their respective schools for confirmation.
In West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, authorities have ordered all educational institutions including government, private, and missionary-run schools and colleges to stay closed from October 8 to 10, 2025. This decision follows severe rain and landslides recorded earlier in the week, which disrupted transportation across the region. According to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, classes are expected to resume on October 13, 2025 (Monday), once conditions improve.
Meanwhile, in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a school break between October 8 and 18, 2025 for government and government-aided institutions. This closure is linked to the Social and Educational Survey (Caste Survey) being conducted across the state. Teachers involved in the process will use this time to complete survey-related duties.
In Himachal Pradesh, continuous rainfall, snowfall, and landslides have caused significant damage. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 49 mm rainfall in Sirmaur, 38.8 mm in Solan, and 36.3 mm in Lahaul & Spiti. A landslide in Bilaspur district also claimed several lives. The state administration remains on alert and may extend school holidays if the weather worsens. Earlier, all educational institutions in Himachal were closed till October 7, 2025, but the closure may be prolonged based on IMD updates predicting more rainfall and snowfall in the coming days.
In Jammu, schools under the Jammu Division were closed on October 6 and 7, 2025, after heavy rain warnings were issued by the authorities.
With many states facing weather-related challenges and ongoing administrative activities, these holidays are seen as a necessary step to ensure the safety of students and school staff. Students can use this unexpected break to focus on studies, rest, or spend quality time with their families.
