Amaram Re-Release: One of the most eminent directors of Malayalam movies, Bharathan, created magic on the screen with Amaram by casting Mammootty in one of the most famous roles performed by him. The film was released in 1991, and even after three decades, it stands as a classic time. Now after 34 years, it is getting ready for a grand re-release, making all nostalgia come back for cinephiles and Mammootty fans alike.
Amaram is often hailed as one of the best out of Malayalam cinema; it also happens to be an emotional deep movie and realistic in its portrayal of human struggles. Featuring an impressive cast of Murali, Ashokan, Madhu, and KPAC Lalitha, all of whom had stellar performances in bringing the story into brilliance on screen- KPAC Lalitha even won the National award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in this film.
This was the written storyline by Lohithadas and transformed through the visual brilliance of cinematographer Madhu Ambat. The movie had soulful music composed by Ravindran and a background score by Johnson, which continues to resound with many audiences to this very day.
Amaram was screened at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala under the Madhu Ambat Retrospective category, and there was loud applause. For many, it was not just a screening, but also a tribute to the artists who are no more in this world.
Now, Amaram is back in the global arena, this time in 4K Dolby Atmos, and is being distributed by Cyber Systems Australia. But this re-release has ignited a debate among fans-some were expecting mass entertainers such as Rajamanikyam or Big B, while others were very happy with this return of Amaram, not losing an opportunity to celebrate true cinematic artistry.
As much nostalgia as it evokes, or just good memories from long ago, Amaram is set to be a very beautiful experience in terms of recreating what it is like to be reminded of the reason that this film is still a gem in the golden legacy of Malayalam cinema.
