School Holiday on Today: Schools Closed in These States

School Holiday Today on Oct 17:
Several schools in India will remain closed on Friday, October 17, 2025, because of heavy rainfall in some areas and regional festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja. The month of October marks the beginning of India’s big festive season, bringing joy and family time to students and teachers across the country.


School Holiday Today on Oct 17 :

Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Tamil Nadu due to continuous rainfall in many districts. Heavy rain is expected in Chennai, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Tirunelveli. Because of this, schools in these districts will stay closed on October 17.
In addition, schools in Tamil Nadu will also have a four-day Diwali holiday from October 18 to 21, 2025, so students can enjoy the festival with their families.


Delhi NCR

Schools in Delhi, Gurgaon, and Noida will be closed from October 19 to 23, 2025, for Diwali. Some schools might also extend holidays till October 28 to include Chhath Puja. Parents are advised to check official school circulars for reopening details.

Uttar Pradesh

Schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed from October 20 to 23, 2025, for Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj. With October 19 (Sunday) included, students will enjoy a long festive weekend.

Bihar

In Bihar, schools will have a 10-day break from October 20 to 29, 2025, for Diwali and Chhath Puja. This will allow families to travel, worship, and celebrate together.

Jammu

All government and private schools in the Jammu division will stay closed from October 19 to November 2, 2025, for Pooja holidays. University exams scheduled on October 20, 22, and 23 have also been postponed.

West Bengal

In West Bengal, schools will remain closed from October 20 to 23, 2025, for Kali Puja, Diwali, and Bhai Dooj.

As October continues, many students across India will enjoy these well-deserved breaks while celebrating their regional and religious festivals safely with loved ones.
