Gold Rate at 48,000 per 10gm; Here’s What You Must Know Before Buying

Gold prices continue to rise without any sign of stopping. Over the past two months, gold has become one of the most discussed commodities in the market. As the festive season approaches, demand for jewelry is increasing, but high prices are making buyers think twice before making a purchase.

Currently, 24-carat gold costs around ₹1,28,890 for 10 grams, while 22-carat gold is priced at ₹1,18,150. Meanwhile, 9-carat gold (9K) is available at around ₹48,000 per 10 grams, which has caught the attention of many budget-conscious buyers.

The Indian government recently approved hallmark certification for 9K gold through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This means that even lower-carat gold jewelry now comes with official purity assurance. A 9K piece contains about 37.5% pure gold, mixed with other metals such as copper, silver, and zinc.

Jewelry experts say that lower-carat gold like 9K and 14K is not inferior in quality. In fact, such gold is more durable and suitable for daily wear because of the presence of mixed metals. According to Aksha Kamboj, Vice President of the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, “Many buyers are choosing 14K or 9K jewelry because it’s affordable and long-lasting.”

However, financial experts warn that 9K gold is not ideal for investment. Vijay Kuppa, CEO of InCred Money, explains that people who want to invest in gold should prefer 22K jewelry or 24K coins and bars, as these have higher resale value and purity. Similarly, RidhiSiddhi Bullions MD Prithviraj Kothari adds that “9K gold doesn’t offer good returns if used as an asset.”

So if your goal is to buy jewelry for fashion or everyday use, 9K gold is a cost-effective choice. But if you’re purchasing gold as an investment, experts strongly recommend sticking to 22K or 24K gold to ensure better purity and long-term value.
