Struggle for Dominance Among Hijras:


Hijras stay most active in the cities of Indore and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. They often gather around train stations and collect money from passengers. People consider some areas a haven for them. An unexpected incident shocked Indore on Wednesday night when 24 transgender people drank phenyl, creating panic in the area. Witnesses informed the police around 8:30 pm, and officers immediately rushed to the spot. Ambulances took the victims to a government hospital.

24 Hijras Attempt Suicide by Consuming Phenyl:

The victims are currently recovering at Maharaja Yashwant Rao Hospital. The hospital superintendent confirmed that the victims are out of danger and that doctors continue their treatment. It appears that the victims attempted mass suicide by drinking a floor-cleaning chemical.

Police said statements will be recorded once the victims’ health stabilizes. The incident took place in Nandalalpura, where many transgender individuals reside. A case was registered at Pandhari Nath Police Station, and the leader of a local transgender group has been arrested.

Why did 24 Transgenders Attempt to Mass Suicide?

Members of one transgender group were allegedly attacked and threatened after refusing to return funds collected for a community meeting. Around 24 members of another group, frustrated with the harassment from Sapna Haji and her associates, reportedly attempted suicide by consuming phenyl at a camp in Nandalalpura.

Ongoing Rivalry Within the Community:

Two transgender groups in Indore have reportedly competed for supremacy in the local area for a long time. They have fought over money and leadership positions. For years, they have argued and clashed physically. Police continue to investigate the case and will release further details soon.
