Dulquer Salmaan: The Customs Department has authorized the release of the Land Rover Defender that was earlier seized by them as part of Operation Nunkhore to actor Dulquer Salmaan, as per the latest directive from the Additional Commissioner of Customs, which has imposed a 20% bank guarantee for the release.
As per the directive, Dulquer has been instructed he cannot take the vehicle outside of the state of Kerala, and that he must produce the vehicle to the authorities if summoned. These conditions have been set so that the vehicle may be made available if called upon during the course of the present investigation. The vehicle of Dulquer and the vehicle of one Robin will also be released under the same conditions.
Dulquer Salmaan had previously applied to the Kerala High Court for his vehicle, which was previously seized by Customs. The High Court directed Customs to make a decision within ten days, and in accordance with the High Court’s directive, the Additional Commissioner has authorized the release of the vehicle under certain conditions.
The customs department continues its investigation into the illegal entry of luxury cars from Bhutan to India. Despite thorough investigation for the last month, no other cars have been recovered apart from the original thirty-nine recovered. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also named the proprietors of Shine Motors as the primary enablers of the unlawful car trade and still have forensic reports and electronic evidence pending.
This gives Dulquer a little breathing room in the investigation into the cross-border vehicle import scheme.
