Bank Holiday Today:
As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks across India will remain closed on selected days in October 2025 due to Diwali and related festivities. However, there is some confusion about whether banks will be open on Dhanteras, which falls on Saturday, October 18.
According to the RBI schedule, banks will not be closed for Dhanteras 2025. Since it is the third Saturday of the month, banks across the country will remain open, except in Guwahati, where Khati Bihu will be observed.
October 20 (Monday): Banks will be closed in cities including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, and Vijayawada. These closures are for Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja.
October 21 (Tuesday): Banks will be shut in Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Jammu, and Srinagar for Diwali Amavasya, Deepawali, and Govardhan Pooja.
October 22 (Wednesday): Banks in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Mumbai will remain closed.
Other Bank Holidays in October 2025
October 23: Banks in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, and Shimla will be closed for Bhai Bij, Bhaidooj, and Laxmi Puja.
October 27 & 28: Banks in Patna and Ranchi will close for Chhath Puja.
October 31: Ahmedabad banks will close for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday.
Even though physical branches will be closed on these days, online banking services will continue as usual. Customers can use mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs for transactions. Services like NEFT, RTGS, and UPI transfers will also remain functional.
Diwali, the festival of lights, celebrates the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. In 2025, the Amavasya Tithi falls between October 20 and 21, and Diwali will be celebrated on October 20 in most parts of India.
