Kantara: Chapter 1 is maintaining its momentum and is historically one of the greatest box office successes across the world, rekindling the magic of the original Kantara. The film has been inducted into a staggering ₹772.85 crores worldwide gross. Early Diwali estimates place business during these two-three days alone near the ₹11 crore mark, as have reports of the latest with confirmed figures from the film’s team, which mentions ₹55 crore just in Kerala. Kantara is distributed in Kerala by Prithviraj Productions, which reportedly earned about ₹108 crores in overseas territories, indicating a serious demand for an imbalanced international marketplace. In Telugu states it was distributed by Mythri Movie Makers, and some other few prominent production houses.

A Mite of Tradition, Faith, and Emotions

Rishab Shetty is the writer of Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, which is a prequel to the 2022 hit film of the same name. It was released on the 2nd of October and had sportivity mingling with aspects of tradition and folklore that the audience seemingly welcomed. “This film is as serious it gets, you find true fusion of heritage and faith and human emotion in this film.” Shetty thanked the audience as he was welcomed by an overwhelming sight of love and support in the audience in Kerala.

Global Attraction and Recognition

Vijay Kiragandur, the founder of Hombale Films, commented that the “love for Kantara is beyond languages and borders” and the film’s succcess is “in it’s universally appreciated nature.” While Rishab Shetty shines, the casting of Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah are performed flawlessly as well.

In 2024, Rishab Shetty received the National Award for Best Actor from the National Register of India for his role in Kantara. This emphasizes the new cultural and cinematic importance generated by a film which also won Best Popular Film.
