30 Private Buses Seized in Bengaluru After Kurnool Bus Accident

Kurnool Bus Accident:

In response to the recent Kurnool bus accident, the Bengaluru transport department conducted large-scale surprise raids across several parts of the city on Friday morning. The inspection drive was led by Additional Transport Commissioner Omkareshwari, who stated that the checks were ordered immediately after the Kurnool mishap to ensure road safety and compliance with transport laws.

Kurnool Bus Accident:

During the operation, officials inspected private and inter-state buses arriving from different regions, including those registered in Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Several of these buses were found running without valid permits or safety documents. Authorities confirmed that 30 buses were seized for violating transport norms.

The main focus of the raids was on buses operating under All India Tourist Permits. Officials discovered that many of these buses continued to operate even after their permit validity had expired. Inspections were carried out at several key locations, including Attibele Checkpost near Electronic City, where multiple private buses were detained for non-compliance.

Commissioner Omkareshwari said the raids started early in the morning and would continue in the coming days to identify more violations. She also emphasized that passenger safety remains a top priority and strict action would be taken against any bus operators flouting the rules.

The inspection team included Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) and Brake Inspectors, who jointly verified vehicle documents, driver licenses, and roadworthiness certificates.
