Delhi Govt Announces Public Holiday on October 27: Here’s Why


Public Holiday on October 27th: According to a statement from the CMO, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared on Friday that October 27 would be a government holiday in honor of the Chhath celebration.

Since the third day of this four-day celebration is the most significant, the chief minister clarified why the holiday is being commemorated on Monday. Devotees gather along ponds or riverbanks on this day to worship the setting Sun.


Families start preparing early in the morning by carrying out several customs. According to a statement from the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the government has decided to make October 27 a public holiday in light of this.

Chhath is a festival dedicated to nature where people worship the Sun God and ‘Chhathi Maiya,'” Gupta stated as she greeted the believers. Through the adoration of nature, water, and the Sun, the event also conveys a message of environmental protection and is a sign of faith, devotion, and cleanliness, she continued.

Is there a Bank Holiday on October 27 in Delhi?

Banks in several states are going to be closed on the occasion of Chhath Puja. People might be confused about the states where banks are closed. Here is the detailed state-wise list of banks being closed on October 27.

  • Bihar: All over Bihar, banks will be closed on October 27th and October 28th in the evening and morning during the puja.
  • West Bengal: On the occasion of Chhath puja, banks will be closed on October 27th all over West Bengal.
  • Jharkhand: Jharkhand is going to witness two-day holidays on October 27th and 28th on the occasion of Chhath Puja.

There is no official confirmation about the banks being closed in Delhi on October 27th. People are assuming the announcement might be released soon regarding this.
