Public Holiday on October 27th: According to a statement from the CMO, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared on Friday that October 27 would be a government holiday in honor of the Chhath celebration.
Since the third day of this four-day celebration is the most significant, the chief minister clarified why the holiday is being commemorated on Monday. Devotees gather along ponds or riverbanks on this day to worship the setting Sun.
Families start preparing early in the morning by carrying out several customs. According to a statement from the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the government has decided to make October 27 a public holiday in light of this.
“Chhath is a festival dedicated to nature where people worship the Sun God and ‘Chhathi Maiya,'” Gupta stated as she greeted the believers. Through the adoration of nature, water, and the Sun, the event also conveys a message of environmental protection and is a sign of faith, devotion, and cleanliness, she continued.
