Bharat Taxi: The Central government has launched Bharat Taxi, which is India’s first cooperative taxi service. It is going to be a direct challenge to private taxi service players like Ola and Uber. This initiative is completely guided by the Union Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). The main focus is to give full ownership of their earnings, and it is a completely government-supervised alternative.
There have been many complaints in the app-based taxi service for a very long time. Most of the complaints are based on dirty vehicles, high prices, and sudden cancellations. Apart from this, the high prices are profitable for the drivers, and these are again charged by the app in the name of commissions. There have been situations where drivers get into loss up to 25% of their actual fare.
Now, the government has taken an initiative to solve these problems by launching Bharat Taxi. This app is not going to charge any commission, unlike other apps, which usually charge very high commission on drivers’ earnings. This app is going to operate under a membership model where the drivers have to contribute a nominal fee either daily, weekly, or monthly. According to the experts, this initiative is expected to allow the drivers to earn more.
When is Bharat Taxi being Launched?
The pilot phase of this app is going to be launched in November. They are going to launch this first in Delhi with just 650 vehicles, who are owner cum drivers. If there is a good response from the public, then the government is going to scale out completely by December. It is expected to increase the service in other major cities, too.
