President Droupadi Murmu becomes the first one to do this?

Droupadi Murmu: President Droupadi Murmu took the fighter Rafale jet recently. However this was not her first time to do this, she did exactly the same stunt on April 8th, 2023. She is the supreme commander of Indian armed forces, she is the third president to do this kind of stunt, she has flown in Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft. 


Fighter jet flight

President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday became the first President to have flown in a Rafale fighter jet at Air Force Station in Haryana’s Ambala. At 11.27 am, the aircraft took off from the base. 


These aircrafts were used during Operation Sindoor – India attacked Pakistan for the Phalagam terror attack. These fighter jets have a max speed of Mach 1.8(approximately 2,222 km/h). 

These fighter jets manufactured by French aerospace major Dassault Aviation, arrived from France on July 27, 2020, formally inducted into Indian Air Force in September 2020 at the Air Force Station, Ambala.

Poses for pictures

Before the take President Droupadi Murmu posed for the pictures and she waved to personnel present there. The media present there captured the journey and she happily let them capture her from all angles. 

Not the first time

Flying in a fighter jet is not the first time for president Droupadi. On April 8th, 2023 Murmu became the third president and second woman head of the state to take a sortie in Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft at the Tezpur Air Force station in Assam. 

Previous presidents 

Former Presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Prathibha Patil did the same stunt in Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft at the Air Force Station, Lohegaon on June 8, 2006 and November 25, 2009 respectively.
