Heavy Rains in Hyderabad: Hyderabad is right now flooded with heavy rainfall. Since Tuesday midnight, there has been continuous rain, which has caused heavy traffic jams all over Hyderabad. Several areas, including Gachibowli, Khajaguda, Nanakramguda, RTC Cross Roads, Amberpet, Kacheguda, Barkatpura, Mirkpet, Balapur, Thukkuguda, Pahadisharif, Chikkadpally, Baglingampally, Domalguda, and Mehdipatnam, have received heavy rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic jams in multiple locations.
Triggers Heavy Rains Across Telangana: Cyclone Montha
Cyclone Montha is gradually weakening into a cyclonic storm but continues to impact Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is being reported in several regions, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 55–65 kmph along the coast. The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Agency confirmed that the cyclone is slowly losing strength.
Due to the cyclone’s impact, floodwater has reached railway tracks in Telangana’s Mahabubabad district. Several trains were halted as water flowed over the tracks at Dornakal railway station. The Golconda Express was stopped at Dornakal, while the Konark Express was halted at Mahabubabad. The South Central Railway has temporarily cancelled 127 trains and diverted 14 others due to the flooding. Falaknuma, East Coast, Godavari, Visakhapatnam, and Narsapur trains were among those cancelled.

Hyderabad Traffic Hit Hard: Roads Flooded
Heavy rains have brought Hyderabad’s traffic to a standstill in several areas, including Lakdikapool, Ayodhya Junction, PTI, Mahaveer Hospital, Masabtank Flyover, NMDC, SD Hospital, Azizia Masjid, and Mehdipatnam. Vehicles are moving at a snail’s pace. City police have urged commuters to plan their journeys and use alternative routes. A car accident on the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway caused further congestion. Minister Vakati Srihari, who was passing by, personally stopped to help clear the traffic.
Water Released into Musi River:
The twin reservoirs of Hyderabad, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar, are facing heavy inflows due to continuous rains in the upper regions. Authorities have released around 6,600 cusecs of water into the Musi River. Osman Sagar, which received an inflow of 1,800 cusecs, had six gates opened to release 2,600 cusecs, while Himayat Sagar, receiving 2,220 cusecs, had four gates opened to release 4,000 cusecs. Officials said more gates will be opened if the rainfall continues, to prevent flooding around the reservoirs and adjoining areas.
