Great chase from the girls and special mention to Jemimah in the big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India!” On his tweet, Kohli captured all the pride and emotion of the moment.
It is the record-breaking victory India could achieve in women’s cricket, and also became the third time the country was in the ICC Women World Cup final. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, India chased down a huge target of 338 runs-the highest successful run chase recorded in women’s ODI cricket. Harmanpreet played a captain’s innings of 89 runs off 88 deliveries, while Jemimah Rodrigues stole the show by scoring 127 units of 134 balls, defining the career. The foundation of India’s thrilling five-wicket win with eight balls to spare was that partnership.
Phoebe Litchfield scored a magnificent 119 from just 93 balls, followed by the 77 runs from Ellyse Perry and a hefty 63 runs from Ash Gardner at a rapid speed of 45 balls. All three together provided a strong total of 338 runs, and although this was a tall order, there were quite a few breakthrough balls delivered by Shree Charani (2/49) and Deepti Sharma (2).
This is one of the historic win for India in many respects and the ticket for the final against South Africa in the World Cup – for the first time, India hopes to win the trophy. It is a symbol of dedication, team effort, and hard work that have led to admiration from veterans such as Kohli and millions of fans around the world.
What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India! 🇮🇳
