Pahalgam Movie: Before Pahalgam was officially announced, it had already landed into controversy because it is an upcoming Mohanlal-Major Ravi film. The strange reality about the controversy is that it does not involve the critics, nor rival fan groups but apparently coming from Mohanlal’s own fan following.
There are strong debates with mixed emotions on social media as several fans have expressed their dismay concerning Mohanlal’s association with Major Ravi whose previous works have attracted criticisms on flimsy storytelling and political overtones.
One fan said: “It is not just in his filmmaking; we don’t need our man to end up in a propaganda movie and get called a Sanghi.” Another said: “If miracle doesn’t happen, we’ll just get another sub-standard propaganda film, maybe with slightly better production quality than Beyond Borders.”
While the overwhelming majority doubts the intent and execution of the film, a few have come out to defend the association. Said one netizen: “Operation Sindoor was one of the proudest moments in Indian history. I understand the doubts about Major Ravi’s direction, but I don’t think he’ll mishandle a subject like this.”
Still, the strong feeling is caution. There is fear that the image of Mohanlal, which is otherwise balanced and highly respected, may take a beating if he were to get too politically tinted with such projects.
Part of the audience assumes that, given Major Ravi’s known ties with the BJP, there would probably be some political overtones in Pahalgam. One such user: “This may sound good in North India, but not in Kerala. It will be a serious dent in his illustrious career.”
Even as Pahalgam is garnering hate online, it is going to face uphill battles even before starting the actual shooting.
