The Girlfriend Vs Jatadhara Vs Haq: A hugely exciting triple contest has opened this week at the box office between The Girlfriend, Jatadhara, and Haq. Audiences in different regions and tapes have been pulled towards these releases, though clear victory seems to be emerging with incoming numbers.
Surprisingly showing a sustained growth, The girlfriend, starrer Rashmi Gautam and directed by Rahul Ravindran, had a lacklustre opening of ₹1.3 crore on Friday but then went on to have an outstanding pick-up during the weekend.
By Monday, grossing across all languages reached ₹7.50 crores, much of which came from Telugu. With an entirely predictable storyline, it seems that the film has struck a chord among younger audiences, particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, based purely on emotional storytelling and, to some extent, relatable themes. A predictable Monday drop occurred, but there are indications of highly positive word-of-mouth, and hence trends seem favourable.
Jatadhara, which starred Sonakshi Sinha, started with a dull thud and has failed to gain momentum even now. The opening day was ₹1.07 crore, and from then on the movie just could not maintain almost any growth during the weekend.
In fact, after four days, it had crossed ₹3.74 crore, which sin in very weakened condition, especially in the Hindi markets. Jatadhara’s mixed reviews and also low promotion appeared to have affected its audience as its poor release timing never favoured it, cutting its chances of doing well. Either ways, opportunity for recovery exists, albeit little, with change expected mid-week.

Haq
Haq is currently leading the box office race with ₹9.95 crores over four days. The impact of the looming court drama and goodwill from the public has helped maintain this lead against its contemporaries.
Haq continues to reign at the box office while inoperably surprisingly managing to turn out as a small regional hit: The Girlfriend. It still cannot run even in the race of cinemas but tries to connect with an audience.
