Air India Toronto to Delhi Flight Receives Bomb Threat Mid-Air

Air India flight operating between Toronto and New Delhi created a security scare on Wednesday, with an in-flight bomb threat. The aircraft, a Boeing 777, operating as AI188, landed safely at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi, in the afternoon. Air India Toronto to Delhi Flight Receives Bomb Threat

According to reports, the threat had been received when the flight was at least several hours away from its destination. The Delhi Police was informed according to officials about a message that gives an indication of the presence of explosive device, and immediately started coordination with Air India operations control team and airport security.

As per bomb threat procedures, the aircraft was taken to a remote isolation bay after landing. Security personnel including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) swept the aircraft and luggage compartments thoroughly.


Passengers Evacuated Safely

Air India issued a short statement stating that all safety protocols were followed “with utmost care” and that passenger well-being continued to be the airline’s top priority. They were all safely brought out, and the flight was inspected by authorities and cleared.

Sources confirmed that nothing suspicious was found, but the threat assessment committee was directed to study the communication and determine whether it was genuine or a hoax.

Investigation Underway

Delhi Police have initiated necessary steps to trace the origin of the threat. According to reports, the cyber and intelligence units are investigating whether the message originated in India or abroad. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also been informed but officials say, according to primary assessment, it does not appear to be a specific threat.

Increased Security in Airports

This incident comes on an increase in vigilance at major Indian airports after the recent security alerts: extra checks and screenings are set up in IGI and other metro airports just to maintain precautionary measures.

Sure, this turned out to be a completely false alarm-bombing threats-but the quick, well-coordinated action has ensured that passenger safety was never compromised. This incident brings again to the fore the importance of having effective communication and threat assessment systems in aviation security.
