Empuraan Controversies: With great pre-release excitement from the strong Mohanlal–Prithviraj partnership, Empuraan, one of the most awaited Malayalam films of the year, debuted. Though the movie came on a large canvas, audience reactions were varied from day one. Political readings of the movie generated intense arguments, and some sections had to be re-censored after publication. Now, filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has addressed for the first time the issues.
Prithviraj said in an interview with Asianet News that he is unaffected by the debates around Empuraan. He made clear that his motivation for making films is never to cause annoyance or outrage. Once the movie is released in cinemas, he says, his role as a producer is finished.
He also touched on the controversy around his brilliant film Aadujeevitham not receiving a National Award. Prithviraj declared he is not bothered not winning since the jury ultimately determines awards. “I have no complaints,” he continued, stressing that his dedication to film is not changed by acknowledgement or its absence.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj is preparing to release Vilayath Buddha, his next movie directed by Jayan Nambiar. Based on G.R. Indugopan’s book and created by Sandeep Senan under Urvashi Theatres, the movie is scheduled for release on November 21.
Vilayath Buddha’s trailer suggests an enthralling, compelling story replete with high-energy action scenes and poignant emotional moments. Prithviraj makes a stunning dual makeover as “Double Mohanan,” a look like anything seen before. Prominent in the movie as well is Shami Thilakan. Against the Marayoor sandalwood forests, the narrative develops among crime, strife, and the attraction of the desired sandalwood trees.
