Train journeys are loved by many people, but only a few know about the world’s longest railway trip. This extraordinary journey runs for almost 8 continuous days and covers nearly 10,000 kilometres. Because of its length and unique route, it has also been recognised by the Guinness World Records.

This long journey begins in Moscow, the capital of Russia, and ends in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. The route is special not only for its distance but also for the different landscapes it passes through. Travellers can see snow-covered mountains, wide open plains, deep forests, and small, remote villages along the way. The scenery itself makes the journey unforgettable.

A major part of this route runs on the world-famous Trans–Siberian Railway, one of the longest railway lines ever built. It stretches over 9,000 kilometres from Moscow to Vladivostok. When the train reaches Vladivostok, a special North Korean coach is attached to another train, which then continues towards Pyongyang. This service was stopped during the Covid pandemic, but it restarted once relations between Russia and North Korea improved.

However, this 8-day journey is not easy. Some passengers who travelled earlier shared that they faced many challenges. They reported that the heating system did not work properly in extremely cold temperatures, and the coaches did not have enough facilities. In most coaches, only a small kettle worked consistently, so travellers depended mainly on tea, coffee, and instant noodles throughout the trip. Even though the journey is scenic, it requires patience and a spirit of adventure.

The final destination, North Korea, is known as one of the most closed and controlled countries in the world. Daily life there is heavily regulated by the government. Even small actions, like watching foreign media or speaking against government rules, can lead to strict punishment. International reports say that nearly 40% of the population suffers from malnutrition.

Because of all these reasons, the Moscow–Pyongyang train journey is described as a mix of adventure, excitement, and uncertainty. It is not just the longest train trip in the world—it also takes travellers to one of the most secretive and mysterious places on the planet.
