School Holiday Today:
Parents across India are checking online to know whether schools will be closed on Thursday, 20 November 2025. Many states will run schools as usual, but a few places have announced holidays due to religious observances or uncertain weather. Here is a clear and simple update on the school status across major states.
There is no national holiday declared for 20 November 2025. This means most schools in India will stay open unless the local government issues a special order. Only two regions have officially confirmed a holiday.
Punjab and Chandigarh: Schools Closed
Schools in Punjab and Chandigarh will remain closed to observe the Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru. This is the only confirmed state-level holiday for the day.
Tamil Nadu: Possible Rain Holiday
Tamil Nadu is the only state where there is uncertainty. Several coastal districts, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur, are under heavy rain warnings.
In Tamil Nadu, rain holidays are often announced at the last minute. Parents should keep checking:
District Collector announcements
School WhatsApp groups
Updates from the local education department
A last-minute holiday is possible depending on tonight’s and early morning’s weather.
Delhi-NCR and North Indian States: Schools Open
Schools in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad will run normally. No pollution-related or weather-related closure has been announced.
States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana will also remain open. With festivals and elections over, regular operations have resumed.
Southern and Eastern States: Mostly Open
Schools in Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Odisha are expected to remain open. However, Telangana and Odisha parents should keep an eye on local alerts due to chances of lightning and strong winds.
