Premante Vs 12A Railway Colony: In the Telugu movie circuit, this last weekend marked the big premiere week for the two small films-Premante and 12A Railway Colony. Neither film was made for larger audiences and, hopefully, both would be able to create some collection based on good word-of-mouth, but their opening day collections made a lot of interesting discussions within trade circles. These two movies are extremely different when it comes to the genre and marketing strength, which caused a different story to be written altogether for Day 1.
As per the estimated opening, Premante opened on Friday grossing ₹0.25 crore as a youthful romantic drama of which the larger audience profile consists of college-going youngsters. With a further drop on the second day, only ₹0.03 crore was added on to the two weeks gross amounting to ₹0.28 crore India net. The limited promotional activities and restricted release pattern actually worked in favor of such a dismal opening. The film evidently has a limited appeal in select urban pockets, but by virtue of numbers, would need to build up on a lot of good word-of-mouth over the weekend to survive.
Day 1: ₹0.25 Cr
Day 2: ₹0.03 Cr early estimates
Total: ₹0.28 Cr
12A Railway Colony had another robust Day 1 in juxtaposition. The net collection for the movie stood at ₹0.75 crore in India. This was almost three times more compared to Premante’s debut. The success in getting people to the theatres was credited to the visually appealing storyline, a greater regional connection, an awesome marketing strategy preceding its release, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Jointly, these elements would have made the film more relatable to the average audience with its emotionally thrilling ground narrative.

If one considers first-day box office collections, 12A Railway Colony is the clear winner. Though it collected much better on the first day than Premante, it was also the one which had properly laid the foundation for any collections over the forthcoming weekend. There ought to be some good chances for Premante to now gain momentum, but at the moment, 12A Railway Colony is in pole position with fairly good audience reception and commercial optimism.
