Gold Loan Demand:
The demand for gold loans in India is rising very fast as more people turn to gold as a quick financial solution. Even if a person does not have cash in hand, a small amount of gold jewellery is enough to get a loan from banks or Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs). Due to this growing trend, the gold loan market has now reached a huge value of Rs. 14.5 lakh crore.
According to reports, the total value of loans given against gold ornaments and gold collateral increased by 36 percent compared to last year. By March next year, the market is expected to touch Rs. 15 lakh crore. This shows how important gold loans have become for many families, especially during financial difficulties.
One major reason for this growth is the sharp rise in gold prices. This year alone, gold prices have gone up by nearly 60 percent. At the same time, microfinance institutions are not showing much interest in giving unsecured loans. Because of this, middle-class families, farmers, and small business owners in both cities and villages are depending more on gold loans to manage their expenses.
Many NBFCs are offering loans up to 70 to 80 percent of the value of the gold pledged. This makes gold loans a very easy and attractive option for people who need quick money for medical needs, education, farming, business, or personal emergencies. Market experts believe that this trend will continue, and the gold loan sector may grow by 30 to 35 percent in the next financial year.
To support this increasing demand, gold loan companies are planning to open around 3,000 new branches across the country. Out of these, about 1,800 branches will be opened by major NBFCs such as Muthoot Finance, Muthoot Fincorp, Bajaj Finance, and IIFL Finance. Other companies like L&T Finance and Poonawalla Fincorp are also preparing to expand in this growing market. Reports also suggest that Jio Finance may soon enter the gold loan sector.
The steady rise in bullion prices has further boosted the confidence of these companies to expand their services. With more branches and better access, people will find it even easier to get short-term financial support using their gold.
Overall, the gold loan market in India is becoming stronger and larger, making it a key financial option for millions of people who need quick and secure loans without complex procedures.
