As Sankranthi approaches, the biggest excitement is not only among elders but also among school children. Recently, news about Sankranthi school holidays has brought smiles to many young faces. According to reports, government and private schools in Andhra Pradesh are likely to get 9 days of holidays for Sankranthi 2026. These holidays are expected to be from January 10 to January 18, and schools may reopen on January 19.

The reason behind these long holidays is the combination of festival leave and regular weekly offs. January 10 is already a holiday as it falls on the second Saturday. January 11 and January 18 are Sundays. When these are added to the official Sankranthi holidays, the total break becomes 9 days. This gives students enough time to travel, relax, and fully enjoy the festival with their families.

Though there is clarity for school students in Andhra Pradesh, there is still no official announcement regarding college holidays. Many students from AP who study in Telangana usually go home for Sankranthi. Because of this, there is a strong possibility that Telangana may also declare holidays from January 10 to January 15 or even extend them till January 17. Final confirmation from the government is still awaited.

In total, the month of January 2026 may have up to 14 holidays when other special days are included. These may include January 4 (Sunday), Vasant Panchami on January 23, the second Saturday on January 24, Sunday on January 25, and Republic Day on January 26. This means students could enjoy a month filled with breaks and celebrations.
