Tea or Coffee:
Tea and coffee are two of the most popular drinks in the world. Many people start their day with either a hot cup of coffee or a refreshing cup of tea. Both drinks help the body feel active and keep the mind alert.
But one common doubt many people have is: Which one is better to drink on an empty stomach? Tea or coffee? The answer depends on your body, your caffeine tolerance, and the kind of energy you need.
Coffee contains almost double the caffeine found in tea. Normally, one cup of coffee has around 80–120 mg of caffeine. In comparison, one cup of tea—black or green—has about 20–60 mg. Because of this, coffee gives quick and strong energy. If you are very tired or starting your day early, coffee wakes you up faster. Tea, on the other hand, gives mild and steady energy.
Coffee provides instant alertness, but for some people, it may also cause shakiness, faster heartbeat, or sudden energy drops later. Tea contains a special amino acid called L-theanine, which helps the brain stay calm and focused. So, while coffee gives strong stimulation, tea offers relaxed energy and better concentration without much anxiety.
Coffee boosts energy quickly but also wears off quickly, which can make you feel tired again after a few hours. Tea releases caffeine slowly because of L-theanine, so the energy lasts longer. If you want steady mental clarity for studying or long working hours, tea is usually a better choice.
Both drinks have antioxidants, but they help the body differently. Coffee improves metabolism, supports better physical performance, and boosts mood by increasing dopamine levels. Tea reduces stress, supports brain health, and helps maintain emotional balance. Because of its calming effect, tea helps maintain stable energy through the day.
There is no single answer. If you need strong and instant energy, choose coffee. If you prefer calm focus, low anxiety, and long-lasting clarity, choose tea. Your daily routine and your body’s tolerance decide which drink suits you best.
