5 Common Hair Care Mistakes You Must Avoid During Winter

5 Common Hair Care Mistakes You Must Avoid During Winter

Winter Hair Care Mistakes: Winter is perhaps the finest season, but it can also act as a prick in your hair health. Winter winds nip outside while indoor heating provides little moisture to the scalp. The result is frizz, breakage as well as dull hair. What most people do not realize, though, is that these bad hair practices worsen the overall condition. Below are 5 mistake you must avoid for maintaining healthy hair in the winter season.

1. Washing Hair with Hot Water

Hot showers are pleasurable during winter, but hot water does damage to your hair by stripping the scalp of natural oils that protect and give shine. Wash your hair with lukewarm water instead-it is effective in cleaning without making the scalp feel dry or irritable.

2. Not Oiling or Conditioning

Cold air has a lower amount of moisture in the air, and skipping oiling and conditioning makes it even worse. Busy routines prevent many people from engaging in oil massage, but it is needed even more during winter when nourishment is a must for hair. A bit warm oil rubbing through once a week deep conditioned moisture is above hydration levels hence reducing incidence of breakage

3. Using Styling Tools Too Often

The low heat tools you can find around nowadays like blow-dryers, first-day straighteners, and curling wands tempt to kick in heavily at this time around especially considering how long it takes for hair to dry. Being exposed to a lot of heat leaves the hair shaft weaker and results in split ends. Use a heat protectant before styling but better minimize the heat setting.

4. Ignoring Scalp Health

Winter brings dandruff and itchiness, and those who keep hair well do not take care of the scalp. Scalp health is important for more robust and shinier strands. Mild anti-dandruff medicines if needed and gentle exfoliation once a week, and moisturizing the scalp will follow.

5. Donning Tight Woolly Caps Without Protection

Woolly caps keep the harsh cold winds away but can rub the hair and cause it to frizz and become staticky. This can be avoided by using satin-lined caps or by wearing a satin scarf under the woolen cap to allow the silk to smoothen the hair strands, hence causing less breakage.
