IndiGo Issue: With public anger raging against IndiGo over a spate of flight delays and cancellations, actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood has stepped forward with a very pertinent message-the need for calm and compassion amongst passengers. On his official handle on X, the actor reminded that while a delayed flight may be one of the worst nuisances for the traveller concerned, on-ground airline employees have to bear the brunt of the mayhem.
A delayed flight is frustrating, but remember the faces trying to fix it. Please be nice and humble to the IndiGo staff; they are carrying the weight of cancellations too. Let’s support them.” These words of Sood have found an audience, especially in a situation where several videos showing passengers abusing airline staff and scenes of turmoil across airport terminals went viral. Sood further pointed out the fact that changes of operational failure and mismanagement, though set by the company, are faced by employees at the front line, who are however, most often themselves innocent.
Troubled hours of waiting, cancellation and rebooking confusion, and overall mounting tension between fliers and employees have characterized IndiGo’s operational scene of late. Reports have emerged of emotional stress being caused to staff members due to threats and intimidation directed at them. Sood’s message speaks to this largely overlooked aspect of the human cost and hopes to bring about empathy in the skies when tempers are flaring at a high in the subsiding storm.
Well-known for humanitarian activities, especially in times of crises like the pandemic, Sonu Sood has not shied away from performing a great pro-people act. In doing so, he reminds us that while passengers deserve clarity and timely service, kindness and perseverance go along with those times when the ground staff courageously stand in the way of injustice.
Sood’s words hope that the traveling public will recognize that disruptions are a common responsibility, something so needed in the aviation sector during difficult times. His words shift the thought process from blaming to understanding.
