Japan Issues Tsunami Warning:
A powerful earthquake shook the northeastern coast of Japan on Monday evening, raising serious concern across the country. The strong tremor measured 7.6 on the Richter scale and forced officials to issue a tsunami warning for nearby coastal areas. People living close to the sea were asked to stay alert and move to safer places.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck 73 kilometers east-north-east of Misawa city at about 7:45 PM local time. The quake occurred at a depth of about 53 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. Experts say earthquakes that happen at shallow depths are more dangerous because they release their force closer to the ground.
Soon after the earthquake, Japan’s weather officials warned that tsunami waves of up to three meters could hit parts of the Pacific coastline. The public broadcaster NHK reported that the first wave was expected to reach ports between Aomori and Iwate regions around 11:40 PM. The warning created fear among people living in these coastal zones.
The Japan Meteorological Agency closely monitored the situation and continued to update the public through alerts and safety messages. Emergency teams were kept on standby in case of flooding or damage. People were advised to avoid beaches, harbours, and low-lying areas until the warning was officially lifted.
Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world because it lies on several tectonic plate boundaries. Over the years, the country has developed strong safety systems, early warning technology, and disaster training to protect lives. Even with advanced systems, such powerful earthquakes still cause worry and fear among citizens.
As of now, there are no confirmed reports of major damage or loss of life, but officials are still checking affected areas. Authorities have urged people to stay calm, follow safety instructions, and wait for official updates.
The government continues to evaluate the situation as aftershocks and sea level changes remain possible. The next few hours are very important for coastal safety and emergency response.
