2026 Public and Optional Holidays:
The Government of Telangana has officially released the Public Holidays and Optional Holidays list for the year 2026. This announcement was made by the General Administration Department. The holiday list is useful for government employees, students, teachers, and the general public to plan their work, studies, and travel in advance.
According to the notification, 27 days have been declared as General Holidays for the year 2026. These holidays include all major national festivals, religious occasions, and state celebrations. The year will begin with New Year’s Day on January 1. Important festivals such as Bhogi on January 14, Sankranti on January 15, and Republic Day on January 26 are also included as public holidays.
Other major holidays in 2026 include Mahashivaratri, Holi, Ugadi, Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan), Sri Rama Navami, Good Friday, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), Muharram, Bonalu, Independence Day on August 15, Vinayaka Chavithi, Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Dussehra holidays, Deepavali, and Christmas on December 25.
Along with the general holidays, the government has also announced a list of Optional Holidays. These holidays can be used by employees based on their religious beliefs and personal needs. Some of the optional holidays include Birthday of Hazrath Ali, Sri Panchami, Shab-e-Barat, Mahaveer Jayanti, Buddha Purnima, Varalakshmi Vratham, Rath Yatra, Parsi New Year, Birthday of Prophet Mohammed, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Christmas Eve. Employees can choose any five optional holidays during the year.
The government has clarified that all government offices, schools, colleges, and public sector institutions will follow this holiday list. However, essential services like hospitals and emergency departments will continue to operate as usual.
This holiday calendar helps people to plan vacations, family functions, festivals, and personal events easily. Students can also use these holidays for study planning and exam preparation.
