Thalapathy Vijay debuts Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam political rally

Thalapathy Vijay , one of the most celebrated actors of Indian Film Industry recently announced his foray into politics and founded his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on 2 February 2024. Now he hosted the party’s  first official State-level conference at Vikravandi in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu on October 27, 2024.


Today’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally marks the official beginning of Thalapathy  Vijay’s political journey as he gears up to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which has been dominated by DMK and AIADMK. 

Vijay Thalapathy is known top-grossing films like, Leo, The Greatest of All Time , Varisu , Beast, Master, Thuppakki, Kaththi and Sarkar. Vijay’s starrer Leo directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj earned more than Rs 600 crore and The Greatest of All Time earned more than Rs 450 crore in it’s 25 days theatrical run .His two recent films Leo and he Greatest of All Time combined gross earnings were ₹1000 crore.  He is one of the most bankable actor in South India.

In February 2024, Vijay announced that he is retiring after doing only one more film, which will be his 69th and last as a lead actor a political fantasy film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 69. Actor’s political entry has been closely compared with legendary actor’s like MG Ramachandran (MGR), Jayalalithaa, and Kamal Haasan, all of whom ventured into Tamil politics with different outcomes.

It is said that Leo actor plans to contest all 234 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections. While his public statements suggest that he will largely align with the prevailing political currents in Tamil Nadu, one of his key positions so far has been opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a controversial subject in the southern state.

In the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam political rally ,Vijay outlined his party’s foundation on Secular Social Justice ideologies, stating that TVK would act accordingly. He further criticised the DMK, alleging that one famil is looting the state through underground dealings.
