He had recently been in and out of a hospital in Mumbai with an age-related ailment. Veteran Actor Asrani Passes Away

Born Govardhan Asrani on January 1, 1941, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Asrani’s foray into acting started after graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. An ascendant career over five decades saw him in excess of 350 films, where he had built a reputation for impeccable comic timing, emotive acting, and diverse character portrayals.

Asrani is best known as the jailer in the cult classic Sholay. Which is still revered as one of Bollywood’s greatest comedy performances. In addition to this, he shared the screen with stars. Like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Dharmendra, sprinkling charm and humor in each of his films.

Even in retirement, he kept in touch with fans and active in the industry. His nephew confirmed his passing, explaining that the actor had suffered ill health for some time. Strikingly, Asrani had sent out Diwali greetings to his admirers only hours before his passing, reflecting his indomitable spirit and zest for life.

As per family traditions, he was cremated at Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai. Everyone from his movie industry colleagues to fans and movie buffs across India. They are grieving his death and paying tribute to one who had inspired laughter in the hearts of generations.
