Stock Market Holiday: Will BSE and NSE Remain Closed on November 5?

Stock Market Holiday: As India prepares to celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 5, 2025. Buyers and sellers are eagerly anticipating whether the stock market-BSE-Bombay Stock Exchange. And NSE-National Stock Exchange-open or shut on that day. This is a detailed guide to the trading calendar and all that the investors need to know before the festival falls in the middle of the week.


Stock Market Holiday: BSE and NSE will Shutter on November 5
The holiday calendar released by both exchanges shows that BSE and NSE will remain closed on Wednesday, for November 5, 2025, due to Guru Nanak Jayanti- which is one of the major festivals of Sikhism. This means that no trading, be it equity, equity derivatives, or SLB, etc., will take place on this day. Normal trading activities shall recommence on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Therefore, market participants are requested to plan their trades in such a way that any open positions would have to be unwound on a day before the holiday.

Schedule for Commodity and Currency Markets
In closure on November 5 for the Guru Nanak celebration, the commodity markets would halt in the morning session. And the trade will commence for evening operations at MCX from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM, in accordance with the usual trading hours.

Currency markets will also observe closure on this day, including forex trading, which shall resume on November 6.

Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who founded Sikhism; and this festival is celebrated not only in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, but also all over India. As it is a national festival of religion, it captures a place in the holiday list for trading every year across both the stock exchanges.

Things to Keep in Mind
Because the week will have a midweek break, traders may face a reduced volume of trade on either side of the holiday. One must take cognizance of the portfolio positions and settlement dates before the holidays, thereby avoiding intraday trades spanning the holiday.
