Your PAN May Get Deactivated on Jan 1, 2026: Here’s Why

PAN Card Deactivation: Central Board of Direct Taxes’ (CBDT) regulations, has issued a notice very strictly that your Permanent Account Number (PAN) should be now linked with your Aadhaar card without fail. If you card holder fails to do it you card is going to be deactivated. For this they have given deadline till January 1st, 2026. Before this everyone should link their Aadhaar card with their PAN card at any cost. What would happen if my PAN is Deactivated?
Once you loose your PAN card this can make you fall in trouble with the income tax authorities and also this might lead into some problems even with bank authorities.

– Once your PAN is deactivated you can’t open a bank account or demat account or you can’t even make cash deposits above 50,000.

– You cannot make any type of investments in share market or any SIP investments. The main reason behind this is you cannot open a demat account without PAN card.

– You cannot apply for government schemes or any financial welfare schemes without PAN card.

– If you want to take any emergency personal loan or any kind of loan, you cannot take it without PAN card.

– PAN card is not just important for personal use, but also this is very important for business proposes.

How to Link PAN Card with Aadhaar Card?
– Visit the Income Tax e-Filling portal https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal

– Following that you can click on ‘LINK Aadhaar’ which is on the left side.

– Before validating your number enter you PAN card number and Aadhaar card number and click on Validate button.

– Once you validate it’ll ask you for an OTP which is going to be shown on your linked mobile number. If your aadhaar card and PAN card is already linked a pop-up message is going to be shown.

– Once the OTP is sent complete process of the linking Aadhaar card and PAN Card is done.
