Thamma Vs Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat: Thamma, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, clashed head-on against Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, on the Diwali 2025 weekend. The two films clamored for attention from viewers with the only one sealing the deal for the festival race. And so, here’s a way to look at the numbers and factors.
Budgeted at a whopping ₹145 crore, Thamma opened strong with ₹24 crore on Day One. The film benefitted from the best availability across premium multiplexes that cater to family audiences, thereby making Ayushmann’s biggest opener till date.
Much like this, however, is a really rough, low-budget romance drama called Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, crudely sewn together on ₹30 crore and opening at ₹8.5 crore. The first figure might be low, but it is quite a good beginning of any kind more so in a movie whose overall scale installed screen count less than in comparison.
Thamma consumes about 60 % of the entire total number of screens and rules the turnout of urban audiences. The blend of action and emotion, and of course, Rashmika’s mass appeal, seemed to work well with families. By the end of the festival weekend, it may be anticipated that the film would be amply surpassing ₹100 crore in no time.
There was another divide in the way the growth of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat was in Tier-2 cities where it had fairly strong numbers, setting up another divide with the film catching its fans by the way of music and chemistry with the younger audience. Within the ambit of its genre, scale, production cost, and limited release, it performed fabulously.
By all parameters of showmanship and seat shows, Thamma was hands down the modification of the event for the Diwali festival with exceptional hype and power as its opening. But that was only commendable to note that Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat was able to earn some well-respected figures when pitted against such stiff competition.

It is thus all summed up, that Thamma ruled on the box office race diagnosis for Diwali 2025 while Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat quietly grew to become a success by underdog underholding.
